Published April 2021. “The study identified (that) 35 % of (social media) conversations on digital content could be possibly related to piracy. Although the quantitative analysis was conducted carefully, the study highlighted the difficulty to identify IPR infringement with certainty … The category with the highest volume of possible infringements is ‘Films’, followed by ‘Music’. Meanwhile, ‘TV shows’ and ‘Music’ (were) the two categories that showed the highest percentage of possible infringement.”
To contextualize the study, “(its) duration was 6 months (April to September 2020) and took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, (therefore) the results obtained were affected in part by the lockdown. (A) progressive increase in conversations … could be interpreted as a learning-curve effect as users became more familiar with both licit and illicit digital content consumption.”
