The Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV Association (HbbTV) provides technical standards for the delivery of advanced interactive TV services through broadcast and broadband networks for connected TV sets and set-top boxes. HbbTV publishes specifications for Application Discovery over Broadband (abbreviated as ADB).
ADB’s optional Phase 2 adds video and audio watermarking technologies as specified by ATSC, to facilitate interoperability and benefit manufacturers and broadcasters who can source and deploy technology components on a global basis. Watermarking under this specification is not explicitly identified as a foundation for anti-piracy but it can be implemented in such a way that if a watermark is not present, audio or video would not be played.
