Malaysia: Authorities begin blocking servers streaming pirated video

According to an article published by SoyaCincau.com, Malaysia’s Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has announced that they will be blocking IP addresses of servers that are found to be hosting pirated copyright content from 24th February 2020. As a result, connectivity to such servers will be interrupted. The anti-piracy move is done in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Why it matters:

Identifying and stopping piracy as close to its original source as possible is one way to reduce streaming piracy.  But if just one set of streams escapes detection, it will be distributed and redistributed quickly. Finding the initial leak is crucial.
