Movielabs publishes high-level content protection guidelines for 4K, HDR and premium window content, which serves as a set of guidelines that movie studios and other content producers can use to establish and implement actual technical policies.

- Version 1.1 of the document updated the specification in February 2016, primarily to clarify the intent of the original requirements published in September 2013.
- Version 1.2 updated the specification in August 2018, primarily to address new side channel threats and to update requirements on link protection and random number generators.
- Version 1.3 updates the specification to provide additional guidance on disabling debugging interfaces and requirements around security software updates
