October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM), an initiative by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) within the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), a DHS partnership with industry.

The NCSAM initiative designed to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and provide resources to be safer and more secure online. This year’s themes are citizen privacy, consumer devices, and e-commerce security. Click for further details and access the NCSAM 2019 Toolkit

Complementing NCSAM is a second month in October: CDSA’s Content Protection Month.  CDSA, the Content Delivery & Security Association, is a community within MESA, the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance.  Member companies are encouraged to promote a culture to “defend against the unauthorized access to intellectual property by empowering employees to better understand the risks, process and protocols to engage with their content security representative(s).”

Why it matters

Good security is part of any complete anti-piracy effort and it’s common sense for everyone to be aware and pro-active. Say what you will about government and industry initiatives, but these thorough and well-intentioned efforts can help anyone, from individuals to large enterprises.
