The 2019 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) analyzes thousands of security incidents, describes the overall threat landscape, the actors, actions, and assets that are present in breaches, and evaluates how threats and incidents have changed over time.
The report finds that roughly half of breaches occur due to hacking, and about one fifth are due to human causes, such as systems configuration errors.
