Two media industry groups, ATVC, the Argentine Association ICT, Video & Connectivity, and CAPPSA, the Chamber of Producers and Programmers in Argentina, began an awareness and prevention campaign aimed at making visible the direct impact of pirated content consumption on users, with special emphasis on the risks to digital security and the protection of personal data.
The main dangers of accessing illegal content include information theft, hacking of bank accounts and exposure of financial data, scams and personalized frauds, and the installation of malware that compromise the device and can enable remote access without the user’s knowledge.
Extent of piracy in Argentina
Argentina has an incidence of live content piracy higher than the Latin American average. Between 2020 and 2025, pirate consumption measured over the total number of households with internet access grew by 108%, according to a prepared statement by the organizations.
47% of homes with internet consume pirated content through Smart TV, web pages, illegal applications or TV Box devices. This is equivalent to more than a third of all Argentine households (34%) consume piracy.
Among the most illegally consumed contents are movies (85%), series (79%), sports (58%), documentaries (52%) and pay TV signals (42%). Within live sports consumption, soccer leads with 76%, followed by motorsport (26%) and tennis (17%).
Why it matters
“Today almost 50% of homes with Internet in Argentina consume illegal content, and the growth of piracy in recent years confirms that we are facing a structural change. It is no longer just an industry problem, but a phenomenon that also directly impacts users,” Federico Fornelli, president of ATVC, commented during the presentation of the campaign.

Sergio Veiga, president of CAPPSA, said: “We believe that this is the time to have a new conversation about piracy. This campaign arises from a joint work between the industry and the media to speak directly to the user. We seek to generate awareness from information and explain that behind a consumption that seems free there are real risks, and that piracy has concrete consequences on digital security.”
