Brazil’s MJSP (Ministry of Justice and Public Security) announced Operation Safe Commerce, a new anti-piracy initiative by the Civil Police of Santa Catarina (SC) and São Paulo (SP), along with its first successes.
Eighteen search and seizure warrants were executed in Altinópolis (SP), Batatais (SP), Lages (SC), Presidente Prudente (SP), São Paulo (SP) and São José dos Campos (SP). Among the items seized are computers, smartphones and other materials, which are now undergoing analysis.
The action on November 19 followed the format of Brazil’s ongoing Operation 404 anti-piracy campaign for repression of online piracy, and has the cooperation of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), the Brazilian Association of Pay Television and the Alianza Contra la Piratería Audiovisual (Alianza). Both associations are companies that hold rights to works that are illegally available on pirated devices, including through clandestine equipment.
