“Stream Cinema Community” (SCC), which was said to be the largest Czech piracy platform operating as Kodi plugin, was shut down in April.

The Kodi platform has long been exploited for the illegal distribution of films and television content to a massive user base, posing a significant threat to the revenue of legitimate streaming platforms. In this case, it offered everything from Czech television productions to shows and movies from global streaming platforms like HBO or Netflix.

According to the technology provider Warezio, which announced the take-down; SCC operated through an API that paired movies and TV shows available on the Trakt service with pirated files hosted on so-called “cyberlockers.”

By leveraging Trakt’s metadata to organize and stream pirated files stored on external file-hosting services, the platform appeared so polished that some users believed it was a fully legitimate service offering all content in one place for a single price.

A million users

According to Warezio’s estimates, the platform attracted roughly 1 million users. In fact, some entrepreneurs capitalized on its Kodi plugin by purchasing Android TV boxes, pre-installing the software, and reselling the modified devices on popular Czech online marketplaces. Additionally, listings began appearing offering the installation and setup of this plugin directly at customers’ homes.

Following the shutdown, hundreds of comments flooded social media platforms like Reddit, reflecting the popularity of the pirate service. As a result, Warezio is under increasing pressure, facing personal attacks, abusive text messages, and harassing late-night calls.

“We wanted to send a clear message to pirates: while they are capable of creating such sophisticated software solutions, there are equally skilled technical experts standing on the other side.” said Jakub Hájek, CEO of Warezio.

The end of pirated streaming in the Czech Republic? A popular add-on for KODI is apparently ending.  Article. April 25, 2025. by Jan Barvif. NaFilmu.cz.

Why it matters

While we don’t hear about Kodi very often anymore, the app platform was once thought to be one of the main platforms used by pirates to distribute stolen content and services.  In recent years, attention has focused more on fighting pirates and their suppliers.

But the consumer platforms that brought their content to end users – such as Kodi – still deliver the content illegally and often pose additional risks to consumers.
