At the annual IBC convention in Amsterdam, Irdeto demonstrated solutions in three areas: user experience, cybersecurity and anti-piracy.

Irdeto also demonstrated a solution developed in partnership with IMDb, the Internet Movie Database, which monitors and analyzes video-on-demand (VOD) titles across global pirate sites. The solution collects data on all titles available on pirate sites, which is then cataloged, and enriched using IMDb’s datasets. This approach creates a comprehensive global dataset that tracks when and where titles become available on pirate platforms.

Why it matters

Irdeto’s announcements may seem disparate in nature, but taken together, they demonstrate the company’s ability to protect multi-screen services end-to-end.  Irdeto’s portfolio is informed by the experiences of its parent company, MultiChoice, which is Africa’s largest media company.

While many observers see set-tops as passé, they are mainstream in many countries; particularly in South Asia (e.g. Bangladesh), in Africa and in parts of Latin America.
