It’s part of LaLiga’s overall anti-piracy program.

Anti-piracy measures pay off

Also in March 2026, LaLiga announced that its ongoing anti-piracy campaign in the hospitality industry continue to bear fruit. According to industry reports, the campaign has resulted in more than 2,000 convictions since March 2019 when the program began.  As of mid-March, LaLiga was investigating more than 300 cases and an additional 488 were pending trial.

LaLiga identifies and prosecutes unlicensed distributors using a carrot-and-stick approach. Sticks include prosecution and conviction of hotel, restaurant and cafe operators who present programming without license. Carrots include €50 rewards to individuals who report this.

Why it matters

LaLiga’s multi-pronged approach to anti-piracy is necessary, as piracy does not have any single cause or location.  The ‘carrot and stick’ approach goes to address both the supply-side of piracy distirbution and the demand for it.

The integration of Bitkernel Group into the ecosystem of collaborators of LALIGA, DIRECTV Latin America and SKY Brasil reinforces the global nature of the fight against piracy.
