Poland: Police close down illegal pay-TV card sharing point. 49 year-old arrested

Police officers from Grójec identified the source of illegal satellite pay-TV signal distribution using data sharing and arrested a 49-year-old man.

During a search of his home, equipment used as data sharing servers was seized, and the losses to media companies were estimated at over PLN 1.5 million (About US$400,000).

The perpetrator was charged at the District Police Headquarters in Grójec with providing unauthorized services, consisting of illegally providing access to digital television (Article 6, paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Act on the Protection of Services Provided Electronically Based on or Consisting of Conditional Access).

Why it matters

This offense carries a penalty of up to 3 years’ imprisonment. Experts from the Polish Sygnal anti-piracy association participated in the investigation.
