Two individuals were arrested as suspects, by Singapore’s Criminal Investigation Department after coorinated raids in several locations. More than 100 illegal streaming devices (ISDs) were seized, which were thought to have a value of at least S$32,000 (about US$25,000).
Such devices are designed to bypass paywalls and copyright restrictions. News reports say that investigations in this case are ongoing. It’s the second report of piracy-related offenses from Singapore in the past month: a seller of ISDs working out of Sin Lim Square was sentenced to prison and fines at the end of May.
Singapore’s 2021 Copyright Act calls for fines of up to S$100,000 (About $US78,600) and up to five years in prison for offenders.
The suspects were also said to be in possession of vaporizers in violation of Singapore tobacco laws. They are illegal in Singapore and also are subject to ‘substantial’ penalties.
