It took just one day from when a pair of two teaser clips from the movie Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender were posted to a social media account, to when the full movie was available online.

According to April 2026 reporting by The Hollywood Reporter, a community of traders trafficking in illegally-obtained movies and TV shows encouraged the person posting the two clips to post the full movie, which he reportedly had, but the next day, the full movie was found on an “unrelated” streaming site from Singapore.  Links to the movie appeared on 4Chan and the X social platform

On April 16, 2026, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) received a report indicating that extracts from the yet-to-be-released animated film were circulating on social media platforms. Through follow-up investigations, officers from the SPF Criminal Investigation Department established the identity of the man and arrested him within a day of the report.

Various electronic devices belonging to the man were seized, and a copy of the film was recovered from his devices.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had gained unauthorised remote access to the media-content server and downloaded the film. He subsequently posted parts of the film online.

The man is currently being investigated for the offence of Unauthorised Access to Computer Material under Section 3(2) of the Computer Misuse Act 1993. The offence carries a maximum imprisonment term of seven years, a fine not exceeding S$50,000, or both.

Why it matters

Incidents like this one are nothing new, and their dual effect is to undermine the creative people behind the movie, as well as to deprive the distributor – Paramount in this case – of revenue.

The movie was not to be released officially until October 2026.  The Last Airbender franchise has been wildly popular online over the years.  Given its popularity, one might question the studio’s apparent disinterest in releasing the movie theatrically.
