The director of Amconics Technology, Peggy Yu Peng Hsueh-Shu, was sentenced to 22 months’ imprisonment, and her company fined S$384,000 ** for selling illicit streaming devices (ISDs) that enabled unlicensed access of Premier League matches. It was the third — and largest — prosecution arising from the 2022 Sim Lim Square raids on illegal-streaming-device (ISD) sellers in Singapore.
She pleaded guilty to 14 counts of selling ISDs. According to local reporting by The Straits Times, another 26 charges were taken into consideration prior to sentencing, which was the highest to date for law enforcement raids conducted in 2022
The 2022 raids had resulted in 17 arrests and seizure of more than 2,500 devices which sold for prices ranging from S$169 to S$275, for profits ranging from S$50 to $140 per device; not including recurring subsciption fees.
The Premier League sent multiple copyright infringment warnings to Yu, but with no results. Yu was prosecuted under Section 150 of Singapore’s Copyright Act, which was also the basis for prosection of other defendents charged in the raids; all of whom were also fined and sentenced to jail time.
** Singapore $384,000 dollars was equivalent to US$294,284 as of November 24, 2025.
Why it matters
“The Intellectual Property Rights Branch of the Singapore Police Force and the Attorney-General’s Chambers, conducted a thorough investigation and prosecution for this case,” said Aaron Herps, Head of Content Protection, APAC, for the Premier League. “Their continued efforts send a strong message that the sale and distribution of illegal streaming devices has real consequences.”
Selling illegal streaming devices or services is a serious offence with real consequences.” said Kevin Plumb, Premier League General Counsel. “Using such devices comes with risks and they may contain malware, exposing users to cyber threats like online scams.”
