On June 2, John Peter Turner was found guilty of two offenses for showing Sky Sports programming without license from Sky. The designated premises supervisor at The Dolphin Inn in Llanymynech was not present to hear the verdict, which was handed down at the Mold Magistrates’ Court.

This programming can only be shown legally when a commercial agreement is in place.  This followed an investigation by the UK anti-piracy organization FACT, the Federation Against Copyright Theft.

Why it matters

Nick Sumner, investigations manager at FACT, said: “Pubs and licensed premises that show Sky Sports without the correct commercial viewing agreement are breaking the law and gaining an unfair advantage over businesses that pay properly.”

Sara Stewart, head of compliance at Sky Business, added: “Sky is the home of premium sport and the UK’s leading investor in women’s sport, therefore protecting our customers’ investments is more crucial than ever. When businesses illegally broadcast Sky Sports, it undermines that investment and instead profits criminal networks,” she said.
