“The UFC has claimed its first knock out against a site that streamed its events without permission in Russia. The preliminary blocking injunction follows cooperation between the world famous mixed martial arts organization and local telecoms watchdog Roscomnadzor, with help from the Moscow City Court. It’s believed to be the first blocking injunction ever obtained by the UFC to tackle Internet piracy.”

Why it matters

Video piracy is treated just as seriously in Russia is it is in many other countries; maybe more so. In fact, one individual who sold illicit streaming devices to carry programming from Tricolor, the leading Russian pay TV operator, was sentenced by Russian authorities to nearly two years of forced labor.
